We are currently going through an exciting phase of rapid expansion as we prepare for the first flight of our electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft. We’re looking for a Control Laws Design Specialist who can apply their industry-leading knowledge and skills to this new and exciting project.

The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience of control laws design for rotorcraft and/or fixed wing aircraft and have significant experience in all phases of design and certification – from initial concept design and requirements definition, architecture design and gain optimisation, through to flight test and certification. They will be an experienced leader of teams who is able to develop and nurture talent, shape strategy and develop and implement a vision for the future of mobility.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Technical leadership of a team of engineers working to overcome significant challenges in a novel domain
  • Evaluation of the stability and robust stability of closed loop control law designs (e.g. predicting damping ratios, poles, gain & phase margins, the structured singular value etc.)
  • Development and implementation of a roadmap for control laws technology development for our aircraft, to certification and beyond
  • Requirements definition and management
  • Planning and execution of certification and flight test activities
  • Management of interfaces between internal teams, external suppliers and international certification and regulatory authorities
  • Leadership of related research and development projects

Qualifications & Experience

  • 15+ years of applicable experience in control law design and implementation
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering or related discipline
  • Expert knowledge of control theory and its application to design
  • Expert knowledge of MATLAB and Simulink
  • Experience of planning and executing flight test programmes for highly augmented and/or novel aircraft types
  • Knowledge of the CS23 and 25, and/or CS27 and 29 certification specifications, the acceptable means of compliance and the development of alternative means of compliance
  • Ability to apply knowledge to small vehicles of novel design and operational characteristics
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated track record as a technical leader and leader of teams
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
